The missing piece here is a clear path to monetisation that balances openness with profitability, a balance DeepSeek has yet to fully demonstrate. Where this breaks down is in the assumption that open model releases alone secure market leadership; operational execution, developer support, and ecosystem integration are equally critical. The next move for serious operators is to monitor these labs closely, engage with their open models to understand practical performance and limitations, and accelerate partnerships or investments that leverage this emerging competitive dynamic.
